This year the City of St. Catharines will celebrate Earth Week from Monday April 16th to Sunday April 22nd.  Volunteers will be out throughout the city picking up litter along roadsides, parking lots and parks.

The Clean City Committee have provided packages including trash bags and gloves available at City Hall, Kiwanis Pool and Seymour Hannah Complex.  Any litter picked up along Walker’s Creek can be dropped off beside the trash cans at the Walker’s Creek entrances at Regent St, Linwell Rd, Parnell Rd, Lakeshore Rd, Cindy Dr and Melody Trail.  If you have spare time anytime during Earth Week, we would appreciate your help!

 The Friends of Walker’s Creek will start Earth Week Celebrations on Tuesday April 17th at Realty Park ( one Vine St. n of Scott St).  This year we will be planting new trees with students from Our Lady of Fatima School and Governor Simcoe High School. You are invited to join The Friends of Walker’s Creek and Mayor Walter Sendzik at 9:45am Tuesday April 17th, to cheer on the students and thank them for their efforts to improve the tree canopy in St. Catharines.  

Many thanks to Olivia Groff and Landcare Niagara for their donation of a variety of trees, all native to our area which is a part of the Carolinian Forest.  Thank you to the City Parks staff for their assistance today and continued support throughout the year in keeping the trails and parks along Walker’s Creek safe for everyone to enjoy!

To finish off Earth Week Celebrations, join us on Saturday April 21st betwee 8am and 1pm at Malcomson Eco Park.  All ages are welcome to help with clean up and planting.  Don’t forget to visit their Annual Native Plant Sale while you are there!
