Where have we been … doing what??

It’s been a while …

It’s been a while since last a post was added to this website and I am pleased to report that members have missed us!! Certainly not due to lack of interest or ‘nothing happening’ during the absence. But some explanation is only appropriate … with our small Board of Directors, to have more than one Director dealing with illness or unexpected family demands does reduce the ability to meet and plan. But email and  telephones have been used to consider new ideas, plan for the coming year and avoid the lousy winter weather as well!!

I apologize for this gap in communication and take full responsibility for the silence.

By way of bringing you all up to date, the 2012 Annual report will be added to this website shortly … and that review of the past year will hopefully let you know how busy we have been, how much we have been involved with and what issues we have been facing. Our Annual meeting will be held in mid-April with the date and time to be announced.

Presently we are preparing to be part of the “Recreation Showcase” to be held at the Kiwanis Center on March 23rd along side the Parks and Recreation Department. Also the Walker’s Creek “Homeowners Guide to Walker’s Creek”, prepared cooperatively with the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority ,will be made pubic in Earth Day week in April  … a very attractive and practical guide to the Creek and its surroundings and how we can all help to keep the Creek healthy, vibrant and interesting. And a new WCNA brochure is presently being printed … something more we can all be proud of!! And yes, the tags on the trees in the parks have now been located with GPS and so that search can be had. With Earth Week, we also have planning under way to cooperate with the City’s “Clean City Committee” and their annual “Clean Sweep” of winter detritus

WE NEED YOUR HELP AND INVOLVEMENT …

Discovering members who are willing to be involved and join the Board of Directors is a definite need. With an expanded group, gaps such as we have experienced will be avoided. The tasks are not onerous, there are usually two meetings a month … one for Directors planning and business and one for the Community meetings. It is an opportunity to have your ideas considered and acted on, an opportunity to bring the best thinking to the advancement of the Association and to be part of encouraging the City and communities to enjoy and make a difference with the Parks we so appreciate. Give us a call or email and we will be glad to explain, describe what happens and how you can identify what interets you and how you can assist the Association.

Watch for more …

Keep watching this website, use our new Facebook page, and be informed of what is ongoing, when the “Spring Walks in the Parks” will take place … enjoy the blooming Snowdrops on the Creek sides in the Parks, watch out for the soggy trail sections, keep an eye on the many new Lilac tress planted last fall that will hopefully bloom a bit, sit and enjoy the sunshine on the many benches, report any ducks or fish seen in the Creek and above all revel in having this great green space so available to us all!! The Annual “Spring Stroll” of all the Parks, which includes our Ward Councillors and Senior staff from Parks and Recreation plus Senior Staff from the Engineering and Environmental Department along with Directors of  the Association. The purpose is to review all aspects of the Parks, note deficiencies and discuss possible solutions while planning work for the coming months.
